Valerie T. McGinty

Valerie T. McGinty represents plaintiffs on appeal with a focus on affirming plaintiffs’ verdicts and overturning summary judgments. Valerie has been recognized for her legal work and her organizational service. She represented Consumer Attorneys of California (“CAOC”) and California Employment Lawyers (“CELA”) as amici parties in the favorable California Supreme Court decision Sonic-Calabasas v. Moreno, (2013) 57 Cal.4th 1109.

Valerie is a frequent presenter at seminars by SFTLA, CAOC, AAJ, and NELA, and is an annual presenter in the statewide What’s New in Tort & Trial series. She also serves on the boards of CAOC, San Mateo County Trial Lawyers, Santa Clara County Trial Lawyers, and Alameda Contra Costa Trial Lawyers. She chaired CAOC’s Women’s Caucus in 2013 and served on CAOC’s Executive Committee in 2014.

Valerie is a graduate of Stanford University and UC Hastings. While at Hastings, she externed in the First District California Court of Appeal for Presiding Justice J. Anthony Kline and at San Francisco Superior Court for Hon. Judge John Munter.

Legal Awards:

Valerie was a final nominee for CAOC’s 2015 Consumer Attorney of the Year Award. Valerie was a CAOC 2014 Street Fighter of the Year recipient for her work as lead appellate counsel in Young v. Horizon West, (2013) 220 Cal.App.4th 1122 together with trial counsel Kathryn Stebner and Kirsten Fish. In 2012, Valerie was a finalist for CAALA’s Ian Herzog Appellate Lawyer of the Year Award.

Service Awards:

In 2016, Valerie received CAOC’s prestigious Marvin E. Lewis award. In 2011, she received the CAOC Women’s Caucus Consumer Advocate of the Year award. She is a five-time recipient of CAOC’s Presidential Award of Merit (2009-2014).
